2008 FX SHO Owners please help

    Hi Guys,

I am considering buying a used FX SHO with 30 hours.
I have heard of 08 supercharger or perhaps other problems that was taken care of in the later models. Can you please help answer below questions for me.

What do I need to check? Was there any super charger problem with that model or recall on anything?

What would be a very good price for that model with a trailer?

How much would the 100 hour maintenance on the supercharger cost?

Should I wait to find an 09 SHO if 08 has weak points?

I ride about 20 hours a month all year long. I want to see how much I am going to roughly spend on maintaining the super charger. I know I will be spending more on gas compare to my 160 FX HO.

If you see this thread, please help with the answers as soon as you can so I can make a decision on this used ski as soon as possible.

    Thanks guys,
    Reza

answer = the only recall i had with mine was the fuelline going from the tank to the fuel rail.

answer = price it out on NADA.

    i would not want a s.c. yamaha with a 2011 clutch.
definetly stick with a 08 or 09 sho if that is what you want.
are you going to keep it stock or what level on performance are you looking for?

the main issue with the 1800cc s.c. motor is the supercharger clutch. my original clutch made it about 65 hours with about 40 of those hours running a r2/c3 setup.
some guyswho run stock boost have alot better longevity with the clutch, but the original old style clutch is no longer available.
are you dead set on getting a super charged yamaha?
    if i was to get a new ski today it would be a 2008 H.O. OR A 2011 VXR/S OR THE 300X.

gordon, thank you so much for the reply. I will keep it stock. I do open water riding that sometimes gets really rough. Every trip is about 80 miles or so. The VXR is out of question for that reason but I love that ski. The 300 is also out of question as I can't afford buying a brand new one at the moment but I believe the 300 is the best ride for what I do although not sure how much the maintenance will cost me and I don't like spending even more money on the gas.

I have been searching for few months and I am yet to find a used 09 and after FX HO so I can get the 1800cc with no super charger.
I have come across 08 sho a few times and I am thinking if it is a reliable ski maybe I should make a deal on one.

I have an 08 FX SHO ...allways riden ruff / open water .....mostly , it now has 130 hrs on stock sc clutch . I added the Riva HKS BOV kit from 6 hrs.

I ride mostly ...100klms / 60 mls @ a time . Never once had a reliability issue. I do all the servicing myself ..( with the help of the GH ) and the service manual .

Can't fault the big bus ....

    Hope that helps

I have a 2008 SHO Cruiser with 260 hours that I've had since new. Riding mostly in open waters. The ski's stock and I've never had a problem with the ski and that includes the supercharger. I've had it serviced by an authorised agent at the recommended intervals. There's no real specific service issues with the supercharger, unlike the more modern Seadoos that have to be rebuilt at 100 hour intervals. You will definitely notice a HUGE difference in the fuel consumption from your 160 FX HO though. Those things ran on the smell of an oily rag. The SHO fuel tank is 70 litres (unsure of the imperial measurement) and if you run it flat out (WOT), say on a river or lake, then out you'll suck through the whole 70 litres in one hour. I've done it! The SHO is a great ski, but you're definitely going to notice the fuel bills compared to your old ski.

Any issue related to the SC clutch is not isolated to a 2008 year model.
