Assen MotoGP 2015: Our second look around the Dutch TT starts above with Jorge Lorenzo rounding Turn 5. One of the best things about clear visors on riders that we can see where they are looking. Just as the variations in body position are unique to each rider, so is each rider's manner of looking through a corner. Some look far ahead, some right in front of them, some appear to look nowhere that makes any sense from outside the rider's head. Lorenzo appears to me looking directly at me.
I have seen this before over the years, where a rider will appear to be looking up rather than at the track. I have come to the conclusion that a rider's eyes move around, looking at many different things as he or she negotiates a turn. Occasionally it happens by coincidence that a photograph happens to be standing where the rider's eyes point for a split second. But I could be wrong. Lorenzo may be wondering who is photographing him at this moment!
Helmet art often seems to have a theme related to the rider's personality or experience. But I've no idea how block letters exploding to release smaller 41s is significant, how came up with the idea or how.
At Catalunya, the high curbs worried Ducati as the team wondered if their winglets would scrape at full lean. It didn't become an issue there, but given how near the pavement the winglet is in this image, Ducati were right to be concerned in Montmelo. The Catalunya curbs are at least this high in places.
Rumor has it the Aprilia RS-GP will soon have a dry clutch like most if not all of the other bikes in the paddock. For now, it still uses the wet clutch shown here.
Each bike model has its own method of topping off nitrogen for the pneumatic valve system. Aprilia's access doesn't require removing the fairing.
Maverick Vinales is impressing a lot of people in his rookie season in the top class. While his teammate, Aleix Espargaro, is getting better results, he has much more experience. Vinales' name has been mentioned more than once as a top candidate for a spot with some other factory the next time one opens up.
Vinales shares in common with many other riders the nervous habit of gnawing his fingernails into submission. I hardly ever see the riders with their fingers in their mouths, but there are many hands just like this on other riders.
